Road Tripping Thailand, enroute Cambodia…Part 2
It’s been a while since Part 1. I left you wandering at Lamai Beach, Ko Samui, which we hope, we could do too, just a little longer than we planned…
But all good things come to an end earlier than expected, and so did our adventures at Ko Samui island. We packed our bags and boarded the early morning ferry [at 5:00am] to Surat Thani. As usual, we reached an hour early to load our car in the ferry basement while we enjoyed the early morning ride and the breakfast of orange juice and sandwiches packed by Lazy Days on 1st floor.
We had another 6 and 1/2 hours of drive till Krabi to submit the car @ the Airport, visit few sights in Krabi and finally to catch another ferry to legendary Phi Phi Islands…
And towards the end of this beautiful drive, there was this final right turn that we had to take to reach Krabi Airport, and that’s when it happened. A car bumped into our car as we tried to stop at the red light. If you find yourself in this situation, this is what you do…
Phi Phi Islands
We were feeling pretty crippled without the car that we got sooo used to. And so, we literally struggled through our mostly-on-foot-&-hitchhiked journey till the Klong Jilad Pier, Krabi. But our ferry to Phi Phi in that perfect, cloudy weather with the perfect company of most interesting co-passengers turned out to be an unexpected treat. Life, compensates!
Tonsai Pier & Loh Dalum Beach
Tonsai Pier was most densely populated stop in our entire trip. Our hotel guy escorted us to the seemingly million flight of stairs up till our next Airbnb along with the Argentinian couple we met on our ferry. We decided to spend the night partying at Loh Dalum beach, witnessing the famous fire shows, dancing with the night waves of clear emerald water on the white sand…Later that night, the waves almost entered the many bars on the beach, as the party went more and more crazy…That’s all we remember ;)
5 Island boat tour
Later next morning, we walked down the crazy market area of the pier with our backpacks, selected a 5 island tour in a tail boat which included Viking Caves, Monkey beach and Maya Bay among others. The ship had drinking water, cold drinks and snorkeling equipments. We swam with the beautiful multicolored fishes in the crystal clear waters to our heart’s content… Dont miss snorkel here…Coz world’s most colorful wilderness lies beneath the waves…
Phuket
We boarded the evening ferry to Phuket, from where we had our early morning flight booked for Siem Reap Cambodia. At the Rassada Pier, we got a shared bus till our Airbnb.
Phuket Airbnb was special. It was a traditional Thai Bamboo hut with nothing but a thin mattress on the floor, a mosquito net and shared bathrooms in hosts dwelling area. Our host was friendly and helped us with many local tips.
Off to Siem Reap
Once again waking up at 3:00 AM and leaving at 4:00, we surrendered our Travel Visa 1 of Thailand at the migration for yet another adventure… Wait, no! relaxing vacation in Cambodia… For getting a glimpse of the historic city of Siem Reap through my sunglasses, Read on… Part 3 here.
